Celadon Layers contain an exciting gene discovered in Canada that produces a pale light blue egg rather than the typical speckled brown egg that quail are known for. The gene that causes Celadon eggs was once considered the rarest coturnix gene in the world. Celadon layers can come in an assortment of colors. Our flock consists primarily of White, Tibetan, Rosetta, Scarlet, and Red Range as well a tuxedo varieties of these colors, as well as Red Pearl, Egyptian Fee, and Autumn Amber.

Celadon eggs are a pale light blue color and are not as vibrant as robin eggs. Lighting will significantly affect perception of the blue color, with natural sunlight producing the most vibrant blue perception. Dim yellow light or strong flash will produce the most pale perception, almost making the eggs look white.

What to expect: An assortment of plumage varieties, all of which reach standard size and most of which lay a pale light blue egg of around 10-12 grams. We often include our celadon project lines in this assortment to provide you as much plumage variety as possible. All our celadons are 100% true for the Celadon trait.

The breeding quintet includes four (4) females and one (1) male, which is our recommended ratio for breeding. Birds chosen for the breeding quintet or male/female selections will come mostly from feather-sexable varieties. The straight run birds will come from both feather-sexable and non-feather sexable varieties. Straight run birds are not sexed and we do not guarantee any specific ratio of males and females. We recommend straight run if you want the most variety, as this lets us include anything we have available. The displayed price for the breeding quintet is for five (5) birds, and the displayed price for males, females, and straight-run is per bird.
