Jumbo Red Pansy – Adult Quail

Jumbo Red Pansy is a jumbo egg line developed at Southern Biophiliac Urban Farm by Lea Kulas. We're proud to now offer these birds and support SBUF as they offer hatching eggs from this line, available here. They have excellent laying abilities, producing 16-18 gram eggs, and finishing at 10-14 ounces in weight. While this line can hold it's own as a dual purpose jumbo line, it really shines in it's abilty to produce large eggs. We think it is the best dedicated jumbo egg line currently available in the US. If your goal is to produce large eggs, these birds are a must.

Lea developed this line in 2023-2025 from birds originating from Germany. Working under the mentorship of Michael Rose here at Southwest Gamebirds, she selectively bred the line to have ideal bone structure for producing large eggs. After selecting for specific bone density, thickness, and spacing, the birds were then selectively bred to lay large eggs. To her credit, this line has turned into something uniquely capable of producing large eggs consistently without stress to bird. We look forward to seeing this line continue to improve, and have already worked with several farms to establish this line for their egg production needs.

What to expect: All birds will have Red Pansy plumage - a popular plumage resulting from the Pansy/Redhead/Rotkopf mutation in combination with the Roux dilution gene. This is a pure, signature line. They will not show any other mutations and we have not observed any recessive traits in our flock.

A breeding quintet includes four (4) females and one (1) male, which is our recommended ratio for breeding.  The displayed price for the breeding quintet is for five (5) birds, and the displayed price for males and females is per bird.
